Oh my!  We received THE coolest party invitation in the mail yesterday and we were just amazed.  We thought it was the most fun idea ever and wanted to share it with you guys since you are all so clever and we know you appreciate different things.

It was a flip flop – no envelope, no package — just this flip flop!  Isn’t it fun?

Our niece is turning 10 in July and this is how she announced her party.  You could adapt this for any kind of gathering.

We were so intrigued by it we checked with Kelli’s sister to find out the details.

How to make a flip flop party invitation

Buy basic, plain flip flops.  She found the best price was Walmart, $0.99 per pair.

Trace the flip flop onto bright colored paper, if you wish (she used the perky floral).  Then print the party details on white paper and border it to make it stand out (she used green paper).  Glue the party details to the flip flop cut out.  She then ran clear packing tape over the complete paper cut out to protect it from dampness and handling while in the mail system.

She used a glue called Lock Tite ($3.99 at JoAnn stores) to glue the paper cut out to the bottom of the flip flop.  You may be able to use other glues as well;  E6000 is a super strong adhesive that will bond nearly anything.

Print address labels and glue the label to the top of the flip flop.

It will cost (5) $0.49 stamps and a $0.05 stamp to mail each invitation.  Do not tape the stamps on – or else the postage is invalid.  You must glue the stamps on (use the same glue you use to adhere the paper to the bottom of the flip flop).  She roughed up that area on the flip flop where the stamps would go before applying the glue and stamps (just to help with adhesion).  This is not a cheap invite, but boy does it set the tone for one heck of a fun party!

She checked with the Post Office and they said it is perfectly OK to mail the flip flop in any blue postal box if you don’t want to take them to the post office.    Ours arrived in 1 day!

Thanks for sharing your technique Kori, and we are SO looking forward to the party!
