The other day we headed out to see the Toughest Monster Truck Tour in Saginaw, Michigan. We took our nephew, niece and great-niece along for the fun adventure. The ages of the kiddos accompanying us are 4, 13 and 20. Obviously we assumed it would be fun for any age and we were right!

Saginaw was just one of the stops on the tour; you can see the tour schedule here.  When you buy tickets you have the option to also get a Pit Pass. The Pit Pass allows you to wander around the exhibition floor and go right up to the monster trucks. Most of the drivers were also out and you could take free photos with them. The drivers were also signing autographs for free as well.

A local cell phone provider was offering free Pit Passes during the week, so be sure and check to see if you can score the Pit Pass upgrade for free when the tour visits your area.

We allowed about a half hour to wander the floor and honestly could have used a few more minutes. We didn’t choose to wait in line for autographs but rather positioned ourselves so that we could take the photos close to the trucks but at a different angle than the rest of the crowd. (Time saving tip!).

As the event kicked off they played the National Anthem and recognized Veterans in the crowd. We loved that they did this! When the Toughest Monster Truck Tour event started we were all anticipating lots of action. We were not disappointed! It was action packed as they started off the night with a wheelie contest. All 6 of the monster trucks including Bigfoot, Dirt Crew, Snakebite, Buck Shot, Quad Chaos and Reckless Driving competed. It was so much fun and they go so high!

Once the wheelie contest was over the racing competition begins. Heats of 2 trucks race and make their way into the final. Our youngest niece was rooting for Dirt Crew (the truck driver she had her photo taken next to – see above) the whole night. Dirt Crew was in the lead until the final event, the freestyle.  During the freestyle the Toughest Monster Truck tour drivers unleash their creativity and perform whatever jumps, wheelies and such that they can in 90 seconds. They are then scored based on use of clock, creativity and wow factor. It was during this final round of action that Bigfoot beat out Dirt Crew for the win. Bigfoot is one of the most well known in the Toughest Monster Truck Tour and was clearly one of the crowd’s favorites.

Every one of us had fun that night; age really doesn’t play a factor in this event.

I would strongly recommend that you bring headphones or ear plugs because it is loud. If  you get the Pit Pass that we mentioned earlier, be aware you are walking on mud. Don’t bring your new white tennis shoes (like our niece did) unless you are going to be very careful!

The Clever Couple was provided with complimentary tickets to the event, in exchange for our review of the night’s action.
