You probably already know that we sell on eBay and from time to time we share an eBay flip score with you to encourage you to consider using eBay (or Craigslist or Facebook yard sale pages) to sell (often called “flipping”) and earn some extra money. You can read our previous You Sold That For How Much stories here.

One of the things we’ve had luck with buying inexpensively from thrift stores, estate sales and garage sales is wall art. We are pretty picky about what we buy with the intention of reselling for profit on eBay so we tend to look for really different pieces.

Vintage wall art eBay Flip

Just this week a piece we had bought for $3 about 2 years ago sold for $110! We consider that a home run eBay flip!

Here is part of the description we supplied to entice shoppers:

“So pretty, just imagine the time that went into hand sewing this piece.  The owner loved high quality items and appreciated fine needlework.  She had this framed at a local professional frame shop.  This is stunning!”

We did include free shipping on this piece, and the buyer lives in Texas so we will probably spend $15 to ship it to her. After eBay and Paypal fees are deducted along with the shipping and cost of the item we will profit around $80. This piece cost $3 to buy; not to shabby, right?

If you sell on eBay, be sure to keep your eyes open for interesting wall art. The picture above was stitched and professionally framed. The piece had a Dutch or Peruvian look to it, which we thought was unusual. Things that are Mid-Century Modern style are selling very well right now (think 50’s 60’s Mad Men-esque era). Also look for vintage paint by numbers that are well done. Many collectors buy these finished pictures for wall art in their home.

Another recent eBay flip score

Yesterday we sold this gem for $59 and the buyer paid shipping.

Selling on eBay is really so much fun! We encourage you to try selling as a way to add extra money to your family budget. It’s easy to get started and you can even use your smartphone to list and to take the photographs. There is an easy to follow step by step guide called How to Sell Online that walks you through the process.

Have you read our previous eBay flip story, again about the $3 thrift store piece of wall art that sold for $950? That was by far our best flip score to date.
