Last week we had the pleasure of staying overnight at MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit, Michigan and we wanted to share with you our experience at the hotel in case you are contemplating a trip to Detroit and staying at MotorCity Casino Hotel.

We had attended our first Detroit Tigers game that day with my Dad, in celebration of his 70th birthday. The game was in the afternoon and it was hot. Like unbearably hot in the sun and we ended up standing in the walkway of the stadium along with hundreds of others because it was shady. We learned an important lesson; day games in the Summer are hot. We decided that next time we go to a Tigers game we’ll try a night game; with a 7:00pm start it is sure to be cooler!

After leaving the game we drove the MotorCity Casino Hotel, which was just 4 minutes away from Comerica Park and a very easy drive. We used our smart phone to get the directions to the hotel; super simple.

Parking at the hotel is free, and it is very well signed and well lit. When you are parking at the casino hotel, if you are staying overnight, be sure to look for the “hotel parking” signs. They will get you close to the hotel entrance. There is a valet parking service at the hotel entrance too, if you prefer. We self parked and were able to park a very short distance from the entrance door. There is a small covered walkway that takes you from the hotel parking garage to the hotel lobby. (Great if the weather isn’t so wonderful).

Once we arrived we were delighted to see the elegant decor of the hotel. Immediately we felt like we were in a Vegas style casino hotel; the furnishings were lush, bold and eye catching. Check in was a breeze and the desk clerk was incredibly friendly. After receiving our room keys we had to pass by a manned security station before we were able to enter the elevator to our room. When we stayed in Vegas for the first time about 20 years ago we remember having to go through a security guard when you left the casino and went to the hotel room and that was odd to us. However we realize it is a wonderful safety feature that keeps unregistered people from wandering the halls of the hotel. The security guard checked our keys and we were allowed to enter the elevator.

The hotel room

Our room was beautiful, it had the look and feel of an upscale hotel room! Look at how gorgeous everything was.

The high end toiletries, plush towels, comfortable beds & linens and stylish furnishings really were impressive.

Our dad loved the LG television in the room! (He is a tv guy). There is complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel as well as a 24 hour fitness center and business center. It’s easy to see why this is a 4 star AAA rated hotel. You can find out more about the hotel room options here.

And the view was amazing! Remember we said how hot and sunny it was that day? Well that weather made the view from our 5th floor room stunning!

After relaxing in the room with a beverage we headed down to the gambling floor, where we all enjoyed a fun time. There are so many different gaming machines and table games to pick from on the two floor casino. We explored quite a bit and stopped to enjoy the live music being played in the casino bar; the band was very good! None of us were big winners, but we experienced the win some/loose some method of casino play and we had a ton of fun! We all earned a free night stay as well by getting the Club Metro player’s club card and gambling for at least one hour (we explain more about that offer here).

The munchies hit us later that night so we were happy to find the Lodge Diner open (it’s open 24 hours). The food was yummy and just what we needed to round off our busy day before retiring to the room to sleep. There are several dining options from casual to fine dining at MotorCity; you can find out more about the dining options here.

In the morning

The next morning my mom and I were up pretty early so we headed down to the Sweet Ride where we split a delicious hot ham, egg and cheese croissant sandwich and enjoyed a cup of Starbucks coffee. Most people were not up and out that early so it was nice to sit in the comfy chairs and chat, while enjoying our breakfast. An added bonus was that we had earned some comp dollars on our Club Metro players club cards, so we were able to redeem the comp dollars towards our breakfast purchase, which saved us some money.

Once the others were up and moving we headed back to the casino floor for a few hours (we were not big winners) of fun and then headed home. It was surprisingly easy to get back on I-75 and hit the road for home.

MotorCity Casino Hotel exceeded our expectations; we really did feel like we were a million miles away. We’d highly recommend this casino hotel for your next trip to Detroit. You can find out more about this amazing place by visiting their website.
